Biennale Svizzera del Territorio
Simulacrum
Simulacrum constructs a fictional territory of our future through the sense of smell.
Synthetic perfumes installed in the garden of Villa Saroli create the largest collective environment with the minimum of material means. Air becomes the carrier, questioning notions of borders, affiliation and agency.
In October, when the park is not blooming, the installation reinstates the scent of its four flowering species, which in nature never appear at the same time. The work invents new olfactory interactions and uncanny speculations on future shifts in our environment.
